Bootsförmiger Ikebana-Korb 花籠 (Hanakago) - Bambus - Signed ‘Sôsai’ 尚斎 - Japan - Frühe/Mittlere Shôwa-Periode (Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts)
A striking wickerwork bamboo boat-shaped ikebana basket 花籠 (hanakago), designed in the form of a traditional ship. The hull is intricately plaited in a cross-weave pattern with elegantly repetitive hoops around the railing. The deck features flat bamboo strips, and at the center sits a bamboo container to hold flowers. The bamboo showcases an exceptional warm, deep brown patina.
This basket represents the 'Takarabune' 宝船 (Treasure Ship), a mythical vessel said to be piloted through the heavens by the Seven Lucky Gods during the first three days of the New Year, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.
With a 2-character signature on the bottom: ‘Sôsai’ 尚斎.
The basket is in a very good condition, fully cleaned and waxed. Please take a close look at the photos.
Period: Japan – Early-/Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century).
Dimensions:
Height 17 cm, Length 58 cm, Width 22 cm.
Ikebana, the art of Japanese floral arrangement, harmoniously unites nature and humanity. Unlike traditional floral arrangements that prioritize vibrant blooms, ikebana emphasizes other elements of the plant, such as stems and leaves, to draw attention to shape, line, and form, creating a disciplined and contemplative art form.
