The Folio 7 whisky's sub-name, 'The Boffins Baffled', refers to the puzzled experts of the time. Indeed, the then directors of The Macallan invited a group of scientists to discover why the whisky was so special. They went to work on it, but could not find any scientific reason why this was so. They were, according to The Macallan's description, "baffled" and "insisted on taking a cask back to the laboratory".
This scene has now been immortalised in the new The Macallan Archival Series Folio 7 whisky. The label shows off a drawing of two 'Boffins' making off with a sleeping cask. It also indirectly refers to the whisky patiently maturing in sherry casks
