An antique writing slope, brass bound walnut also including a dip pen, inkwell and an assortment of rare antique documents. The box opens to reveal the gilt edged leather writing slope, the pen tray includes a dip pen, with two recesses at both ends. The key is not original and does not work the lock but included for decorative effect. The secret compartment is accessed by pulling up the left hand divider, it releases the panel below to access the three drawers.

This is a really beautiful and substantial box, an elegant functional item which is decorative too, it is in good functional condition, with beautiful patination and a brass cartouche engraved "OFD" in a copperplate hand.

The box has a crack across the top mirrored in the base both of which have been repaired but are still visible, the writing surfaces have been reattached, one of the brass sliders in the securing locks for the top writing surface is missing, the other is intact, the strip in the centre of the writing slope is a later addition, there is a small loss to the veneer at the base on one side.

The box measures 45 x 18 x 25.5cm (17.71" x 7.08" x 10") w x h x d.

The documents included with the box are all original and include;

A copy of The Times newspaper dated `November 28th 1840.

An addressed envelope with Penny Red stamp and wax seal dated April 11th 1868.

A prestamped card dated January 22nd 1878,

A handwritten envelope dated April 12th 1834.

A handwritten invoice dated November 21st 1822.

Three 19th century press clippings for medical products.

A cheque dated 1906.

Perfect and thank you for letting me know, best wishes, John.

Odd transaction with a shipping cost thirty times the amount of my successful starting bid on a lot attracting no interest but my own. Lot accurately described, sturdily packed, and promptly shipped.

Thank you for the feedback, delighted to hear that you are happy, John.

A embalagem e o envio merecem boa referência. Recomendar ao vendedor que tome cautela com os endereços. O meu não vinha completo. Mas tudo correu bem.

Foi muito rápido, estou muito feliz que tudo correu bem e obrigado pelo feedback. John.

This seller is 100% awesome. He is honest and decent. The item was delayed due to customs and was eventually returned to the seller who then at his expense sent it to an alternative address in UK.
