The panels include the “Mission Sermon in Ancient Britain”, 4 panels from “West Africa”, 3 from India, 5 from New Zealand, 4 from North West Africa and 3 from China. 20 tablets on the successful (and apparently) necessary spread of the word of God in "Negro towns", among Hindus, "savages and Chinese "child murderers." (The noble white man brings Christian civilization to the uncivilized natives. And then everyone is happy.)
"Work sought after because of the magnificent, excellently colored large lithographs: Very impressive scenes from the life of the natives in Africa, India, New Zealand, China. - Excellent picture book with depictions of the folk and mission life of West Africa, India and China. This magnificently illustrated Children's books have become very rare" (A. Seebass). The beautiful panels in this second part show children in a girls' school in Sierra Leone, Hindus on the banks of the Ganges, a "snake worship", warships in New Zealand, Indians in North America and much more.
J. Josenhans (1812-1884) was an inspector from 1849 to 1879 the Basel Mission. "Experiences from a visitation trip through the East Indian mission areas and his goal-oriented loyalty enabled him to organize work on the mission fields as well as for the entire mission work in a comprehensively centralized and successful manner, in accordance with the requirements of the time. J. was the organizer of the Basel Mission and the educator of its missionaries for a generation" Corners slightly bumped, slightly brown stained covers, otherwise a very good copy in the rare original binding.
