The idea was that “even in a windowless room, if there were a view of the outside beyond the wall, it might make the room feel more open and cheerful.
Inspired by such windows, Studio Ghibli has created a new series of “Window Wall Art,” the second installment of “Howl's Coming Town!
With a size as large as a real window, you can recreate the view that Sophie sees in her own room.
Enjoy the beautiful background painting that connects you to the world of Ghibli.
The view that Sophie sees from the window of the “Hatter's Hat Shop” in “Howl's Moving Castle” has become a painting.
The wide-open window offers a view of Howl's castle through the wasteland, Sophie's town, and a beautiful mountain range.
The background artwork was newly drawn by Studio Ghibli animators.
The original layout was created by Akihiko Yamashita, who was the animation director for the movie “Howl's Moving Castle.
The background art was done by Yoji Takeshige, who was also the art director.
Water-based pigment inkjet ink with excellent light resistance and color reproduction is used on Van Nouveau paper, which has both texture and printability.
In order to reproduce the rich colors of the original, the reproduction was done using plate-making techniques that interweave special colors and exquisite offset printing techniques.
These are gently rolled up and shipped overseas in cardboard boxes.
