Antique German sterling silver matchbox holder vesta case dating to the late 19th century. Oblong body is embossed all over with a village scene depicting musicians entertaining drunk pub revellers. Beautifully executed scene with close attention paid to such details as the fruiting grapevines, people peeking through a window and a dog lying at the foreground.
The match compartment is concealed within the outer sleeve; there is a striking pad to base.
