Producer details
Except for the riserva, Valdicava's wines are blended from various vineyards and plots to achieve the desired characteristics. This is generally the case with most all Brunellos. All the grapes for the riserva, however, are sourced from a single vineyard. The wine and the vineyard are named after the Madonna del Piano church located on the property. The Madonna del Piano Riserva was the first single vineyard Cru Brunello ever produced. In fact, until 1994 single vineyard labeling was prohibited by DOCG Brunello standards. Only mature (35 - 40 year old) vines are used to make the riserva. Since Sangiovese vines must be replaced about every 40 years new vines are planted in plots that will eventually replace the old ones that will get torn out. Younger plots in the rotation are used in the other wines until they are mature enough for the riserva.

Ratings
98 points – James Suckling “This is drinking a little tight at the moment. Still, the bright and decadent fruit give way to nice chewy tannins. Very complex, full bodied, and balanced. This needs some time to come back around. Drink this after 2012”

96 points – Wine Spectator “Intense aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and mineral, with just the right amount of licorice and mineral. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a beautiful finish. Best after 2012. 2,415 cases made.”

Storage: It has been carefully stored in Italy under optimal cellar conditions, guaranteeing its quality and integrity.
Collection: This bottle comes from a large private collection, reflecting its exclusivity and careful conservation over the years.
Transport: Recently transported to the Netherlands and still stored under ideal conditions.

Good package. Long delivery, awful shipment service utilized. 13 days of trip from NL.

We’d like to clarify a point regarding the shipment timeline. The wine was shipped on 5/9/24 and delivered on 12/9/24, meaning the actual delivery took 8 days, not 13. Additionally, while the official delivery date was 12/9/24, the wine arrived at the location on 7/9/24 but was delivered according to the scheduled appointment. Therefore, the comment regarding a 13-day shipment period is inaccurate.

Great wine, stored under excellent conditions! Communication was fast and clear. Seller is flexible with shipping/pickup, good packing. Friendly and knowledgeable on the products!
