Sandeman Vau Vintage Port 2 x 0.75L
2 Bottles
Port Wine

DESCRIPTION
It all started in 1790 when the 25-year-old son of a Scottish prosperous cabinetmaker asked for a 300£ loan from his father to set up as a wine merchant in London. This ambitious young man was George Sandeman, the founder of Sandeman, who ended up establishing one of the world’s leading Port and Sherry wine businesses. From early on Sandeman specialised in these two great Iberian fortified wines and, following a usual practice in those days, began trading not from own offices but from Tom’s Coffee house, on Birchin Lane, London. Business was agreed on a ‘gentleman’s word’ and George soon gained an impeccable reputation, characteristic of The House of Sandeman to today.
In 1877, just one year following the creation of the first ‘Trade Marks Registration Act’ in England, the brand name ‘GSC George Sandeman & Co.’ (in Sandeman casks since 1805) was officially listed, being one the world’s oldest registered trademarks still in use.
Sandeman is since 2002 under the ownership of Sogrape, a leading family-owned fine wine company, founded in 1942 in Portugal, and operating in five continents. Sandeman has profited from its know-how, investments and footprint, namely in the Douro, where Sogrape is a prime land owner and leading player in the industry. The many prizes and awards received by Sandeman Vintage Ports are a reflection of the excellent work done in the recent years.
Sandeman was in the founding family from 1790 until 1952, when it became a public company, before Seagram took possession in 1980. In 2000, when Seagram beverage business was sold, Sandeman briefly passed to Pernod Ricard prior to its acquisition by Sogrape in 2002.

WINEMAKER: José Maria Soares Franco.

AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS
94 Points, International Wine & Spirit Competition
93 Points, International Wine Challenge
93 Points, Jamie Goode
Grand Gold Medal, Mundus Vini
88 Points, Editor’s Choice, Wine Enthusiast
16.5 Points, Jancis Robinson

WINE VARIETIES: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca & Touriga Nacional.

VINIFICATION
The grapes harvested by hand at an optimal point of ripeness were vinified in our wineries, according to the traditional Port Wine method. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and robotic mills, with skin maceration and under controlled temperatures, being interrupted by the addition of wine spirit at the ideal time for each variety. The naturally sweet and rich wines were very dark and full-bodied, with great strength and aromatic concentration. The exceptional wines chosen to integrate the final batch of this Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 1999 were transported to the Sandeman cellars in V.N. Gaia where they remained under ideal temperature and humidity conditions. Its gradual evolution was constantly monitored by the Enology team who, after multiple tastings, confirmed the excellence of the wines and prepared the final batch. Bottled in 2001.

TASTING NOTES
Wine with a deep ruby color, dark and opaque. It demonstrates an enormous richness of aromas of red, fresh and juicy fruits. In the mouth it is a very full-bodied and complex wine, with rich flavors of plums, strawberries and spices, well harmonized by a good structure of soft but firm tannins. This structure is the solid foundation that will allow you to age for years to come.

SERVING
It goes well with rich chocolate desserts, red fruit pies, and intense but creamy cheeses. Store in a horizontal position, in a cool and dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations. Serve at a temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC. Consume in moderation.
