The Queen of Campbeltown: family-run distillery, with a proudly artisanal, tradition-driven style and an unmistakable, uncompromising style. This is Springbank Distillery.

The barley, strictly Scottish, is still turned by hand on the traditional malting floors, reopened in 1992 when the other distilleries were closing them; it is then dried in manual ovens according to different degrees of peating. The very long fermentation (up to 110 hours) imposes a low alcohol content on the must but a high level of esters, which allows the distillate to develop very fruity notes.

The distillation takes place in three copper stills, of which the first is still heated with a direct flame (another very rare fact in the Scottish panorama, now converted to the more economical and ecological steam heating); production is very limited, around 150,000 liters per year out of a capacity of around 750,000. What is even more striking is that all these operations are entirely managed manually, without the aid of computers or automation, relying exclusively on the experience of the workers.

This edition is an annual distillery release of very few bottles of a full proof Springbank 12 Year Old aged 70% Bourbon 30% Sherry.

Packing was unfortunately not adequate and protecting the content. Outer packing was queezed, so that Whisky Box insided was received with wrinkles and slightly damaged.
