Capturing a research

Collaborating with Vlisco during an internship, Simone Post was impressed with its beautiful products, but she also noticed the big amount of waste materials. She therefore initiated an extensive material research into the leftovers and misprints of the Dutch textile manufacturer, known for its bold and vibrant wax fabrics. This research resulted into the production of the Vlisco Recycled Carpets, on which Simone graduated cum laude from the Design Academy Eindhoven.

From the desire to capture her research, the idea arose to make a book. With the book, she also aimed to inspire other companies to develop a different view on their leftover materials and to show the endless possibilities there are, once you start experimenting with (leftover) materials. Each edition of ‘Post Vlisco’ is bound in a unique piece of Vlisco misprint.

About Post
Simone Post (*1990, Utrecht, the Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary maker with roots in textiles, based in Rotterdam. Growing up, she was surrounded by sewing machines to play around with as her mother conducted sewing classes at home. She graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven with honors in 2015. Simone’s atelier serves as a sanctuary for experimentation and creation with textiles as her ultimate muse.

This can find it’s materialisation in various outcomes, such as refurbished and ‘reupholstered’ knob chairs, alienating soft cabinets, pleated ceramics or marshmallow twisted window frames. Post’s work delves deep into color, texture, and print. Her works breath colour and optimism but at the same time are always asking substantive questions. Her work is a testament to the potential of materials, demonstrating that with dedication, craftsmanship, and a sense of wonder, it’s possible to turn seemingly ordinary materials into something extraordinary.

She has a portfolio of projects, collaborating with esteemed companies such as Vlisco, Kvadrat, Adidas, and Hermès, yet she is ultimately driven by a profound inner compulsion to create her own highly coveted objects
Her work has been exhibited worldwide from Brasil, China, Italy, India, US, Europe and has been acquired by multiple museums, including the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, the Centraal Museum Utrecht, MAD Paris and the Cooper Hewitt, New York

Bedankt voor het eigenzinnige kunstwerk! Het doet me denken aan de figuren van James Ensor of Karel Appel. Grimmig vrolijk.
