I painted this piece one year ago, in 2023. It is one of the first ten pieces created for my current UnderWater collection, and being one of the earliest works, it includes a signature element: a tiny 3D varnished Swimmer on the bottom right of the front. It's almost invisible unless closely observed. This detail marked the perfect transition from my previous Swimmers collection to this current Underwater series.

The three layers of pigmented epoxy resin represent the metaphor of diving deep into oneself—self-discovery, exploration, and reflecting on the experiences that shape us, what I call "layers." Only through this understanding can one realize their uniqueness, just as this painting is.

Epoxy resin is a transparent liquid that, when worked with, resembles water. Each layer requires a day's work as it hardens and takes on the desired form.

As shown in the photos, this painting can be displayed either vertically or horizontally, and switching its position is quite simple by adjusting the screws already included on its back.

This piece is currently with my Dutch gallerist, who will gladly ship it to its new owner.

El vendedor y su historia

In every brush stroke, Rubén invites us to dive into the depths of his creativity, where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur and art becomes a vessel for profound introspection and discovery. Born in 1975, Rubén, a visionary artist based in the heart of Madrid, draws inspiration from the vibrant energy of the city where his studio resides. He embodies a fusion of identities, feeling deeply connected to the dynamic pulse of Madrid and equally drawn to the enchanting allure of the Canary Islands. This duality infuses his work with a rich tapestry of cultural influences, creating art that speaks to the soul and stirs the imagination. Rubén finds motivation and inspiration outside the studio through his passion for Ironman triathlons and marathons. These gruelling endurance events are a powerful incentive, pushing him to surpass his limits and fueling his creativity. The discipline, determination, and perseverance required in these athletic pursuits resonate deeply with Rubén's artistic process, driving him to explore new depths of expression in his work. As he continues to push himself both physically and artistically, Rubén's journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion and dedication.
