Dr Richard Mead was so renowned, Watteau came from Paris for a medical consultation. Doctor of medicine, and great collector in many fields. Prints from his collection can be recognised by pen annotations along the top on the verso of the form "7 Nt Lt 1" (see 'Print Quarterly' XII 1995, p.78).
Dr Richard Mead was a physician to George II from 1727. He helped to establish the charity, The Foundling Hospital, for orphans in London, and was a prolific collector.
