It is made using the "Shudame" technique, a deep red lacquer finish with a beautiful shine, layered over wood. The vase comes with a copper liner and a signed wooden box (tomobako). This piece is designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of International Trade and Industry in Japan, representing the skilled craftsmanship of Niigata Prefecture.
