Ancient Roman Pottery Oil Lamp

This interesting pottery oil lamp has a drop-shaped body and a flat base adorned with concentric circles. The slightly sloped shoulder around the central filling hole is decorated with a chevron pattern. A small lug is positioned at the back, while a small opening at the front holds the wick, which bears traces of black soot from past usage.
Oil lamps were essential household items used for illumination in ancient times. Typically made of pottery or bronze, these lamps featured a shallow dish filled with oil and a wick inserted through a hole in the spout.
