Old silver Hmong (or Miao) spirit lock amulet, with silver chains.

1- Pendant shaped like a padlock and worn as an amuletic pendant, from the Hmong tribe living mainly in South China.
Very good silver content, at least 800 or more (tested).
From the first half of the XXth Century.
Spirit locks are believed to lock the spirit or soul into the body in case of illness or accident, thereby providing the wearer with powerful protection against physical harm.
Lock-shaped pendants are suspended from heavy chains and attached to the neck rings worn by the Hmong. These lock ornaments were also used in healing ceremonies to recall the wandering souls of the sick to be called back and secured to the body.

It measures 5,5 x 6,5 cm and weighs 38,6 gr.
