The outer surface of this letter box shows a fine black-lacquered lid decorated with gold taka maki-e and mother of pearl inlay patterns for vivid clouds, pine trees, ancient buildings, rocks and excellent persons. These patterns were created with great precision and detail, capturing the beauty of these patterns in every nuance. The gold lacquer was applied with great skill, creating an effect of depth and three-dimensionality to the floral motif.
The interior of the letter box are coated with gold lacquer, a traditional Japanese finish which offers a charming contrast to the glossy black exterior.
