Hilaire Germain Edgar Degas (Paris, July 19, 1834 – September 26, 1917) was a French Impressionist painter and sculptor. Famous as a painter and draftsman under the Impressionist movement, he spent his last years as a sculptor due to his deteriorating eyesight.

The Belgian dancer Marie van Goethem was 14 when she modeled for Degas. He modeled her in wax and provided her with real hair and real shoes. The statue was so lifelike that it caused a scandal at the Impressionist exhibition in 1881. Degas never exhibited the work again. After Degas' death, twenty-five bronze casts of this statue were made.

No scratches, cracks, chipping or dents. In an excellent condition.
Signed "bronze reproduction" on the back.
