Founder of the Order of the Crown

This high award was founded on October 18, 1861 by King Wilhelm I of Prussia. The Civil and Military Merit Order was awarded primarily for long-term service in the civil service. There are four classes of the Order of the Crown.

On January 2, 1861, Wilhelm I ascended the Prussian throne. The monarch appointed the liberal ministry of the so-called New Era. The German Empire was founded with a ceremonial act on January 18, 1871 in the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles. Wilhelm I was proclaimed German Emperor. The ruler appointed the Prussian Prime Minister Prince Otto von Bismarck as Chancellor of the Empire. Emperor Wilhelm I became a symbol of the unity and greatness of the empire.

The order's symbol is a white enameled cross with curved, wide, straight arms and gold-colored border. A fine, gold-colored, parallel border shines on the arms of the cross. The front of the medallion shows a royal crown on a gold-colored background. The medallion ring is gold-colored inside and out. The gold-colored motto GOD WITH US shines on a blue enameled background. Stylized, gold-colored foliage entwines underneath.
