This listing features a rare and exquisite celadon incense burner 青磁 香炉 crafted by the renowned Japanese potter Suwa Sozan I between 1907 and 1922. Suwa Sozan I (1851-1922) was the founder of the prestigious Suwa family of potters, known for their mastery of ceramic arts.

Suwa Sozan I was born in 1851 in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. He studied ceramic painting under Saiunro Kyokuzan in 1873 and adopted the name "Sozan" in 1893. In 1907, he perfected his celadon glaze technique, which became his signature style. His exceptional skills and artistry were recognized when he was appointed as an Imperial Household Artist in 1917.

This incense burner showcases the artist's signature celadon glaze, a technique he mastered and became famous for. The piece dates from the later part of his career, representing the pinnacle of his artistic achievement.
