Starfish are marine animals that belong to the phylum Echinodermata. They are known for their distinctive star-shaped appearance, typically with five arms, although some species may have more. The arms radiate from a central disk, and the underside of the starfish often contains tube feet that are used for locomotion and capturing prey.
Starfish have a simple body structure. The upper side, or aboral surface, is covered with small, calcified plates, and the lower side, or oral surface, contains the mouth at the center of the central disk. The tube feet, part of the water vascular system, assist in movement and feeding.
One fascinating feature of starfish is their ability to regenerate lost arms or even an entire body. If a starfish loses an arm, it can often grow it back over time. Some species are even capable of regenerating a whole new individual from a single arm.
