This is a jewel from Rioja!! Castil Corvo was the flagship dry white wine produced by Bodegas Franco-Españolas in the first third of the 20th century. Vinified from overripe grapes, late harvest completed at the end of November from superior grape ripeness from the oldest plots of Bodegas Riojanas Estate. This is a magnificent sample of ultra-traditional white Riojan style vinified in the early 20's by an assemblage of different vintages (from 1900 to 1920). Every single vintage fermented and aged separately in cask for 15 to 20 years and then racked into a big wooden vat from the founding time of the winery (1890) where all wines were blended.

The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and the post-war situation stopped the bottling. The wine was not bottled, due to the serious financial difficulties experienced at the time by the winery in the postwar period. The whole vintage remained in an old wooden vat for 10 more years. Racked and bottled in the early 50's directly from the vat. Those bottles were cellared in the old winery of Bodegas Franco-Españolas until mid 80's. They were never placed on the market and sold or given, only bottle by bottle, to loyal customers and company commitments.
