Lovely illustrated volumes (I, III, IV, V, VI) of this 19th-century historical study of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. The set contains descriptions of iconic ancient and modern Edinburgh locations streets, cathedrals and abbeys, castles, art galleries, banks, and more.
Illustrated throughout with 49 Steel engravings, many hundreds of engravings, woodcut vignettes, plans and maps. Published by Cassel, Petter, Galpin & Co., London, c1884. All volumes are very solidly bound in red boards, with design on upper covers, and gilt lettering on spines. All page edges gilt.

Condition
Firm and well-bound volumes. Light wear to boards’ corners, edges, and to head and tail of spines, with marks and discoloured areas to some covers. Internally the books are in good condition indeed. Some related age marks to some pages. Some ink stains to inner pages and back cover of last volume. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. Inner hinges are very good. The text and plates are clean and bright (Please see pictures).
