This bronze ornament, featuring the motif of the Ashihara Bon Odori (Bon dance), was created by Seiji Kato. It is a rare piece, as ornaments with a Bon Odori theme are seldom seen. The figure, dressed in a yukata and wearing something resembling a jin kasa (a type of traditional hat), represents the old Japan.

The name "Ashihara" refers to various locations across Japan. This ornament likely represents the Bon Odori from the Ashihara district in either Wakayama or Hyogo Prefecture.

About Seiji Kato (died at age 56):
Born on June 1, 1887, in Ama District, Aichi Prefecture, Seiji Kato graduated from the Western Painting Department of Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1910. While still a student, he exhibited works such as "Yamakage," "Former Gakushuin," and "Early Spring" at the third Bunten Exhibition and continued to present his work annually thereafter. Between April 1920 and July 1922, he traveled abroad. In 1923, he became a member of the Kofukai Art Association and was recommended as a non-judged exhibitor for the Imperial Exhibition in 1930. His work "Autumn in Oku-Nikko," exhibited at the Invitation Exhibition in 1936, was purchased by the Ministry of Education, and his piece "Clear Autumn" at the same year's Bunten Exhibition was acquired by the Imperial Household Agency. In addition to his contributions to the Bunten and Kofukai exhibitions, he frequently held solo exhibitions. As a member of the Aichi Society, he was also dedicated to promoting local arts.
