Brigitte Bardot, 1959, Sam Lévin
Photographer Sam LévinIn 1935, Sam Lévin's photos for Georges Lacombe's film Les épouseux (The Scandalous Spouses), published in Cinémonde, were an immediate success: his career as a set photographer was launched. From then on, he worked with prestigious directors, first and foremost Jean Renoir, whose masterpieces he photographed: The Great Illusion, The Human Beast and The Rules of the Game.
His now international notoriety allowed him to work with the Cinecitta studios and also with an American film major, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Thanks to the enthusiasm generated by his photos, Sam Lévin opened a large studio on rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré and specialized in portrait photography.
The artist, very innovative in his technique and ideas, sculpts light, models faces and introduces flat areas of color.
Ava Gardner, Michèle Morgan, Ingrid Bergman and especially Brigitte Bardot are among the faithful.
