Hezzanith Sextant
I am selling a "Hezzanith" sextant by the British instrument maker, Heath, & Co., LTD, London. The instrument has its original certificate dated 17th April 1953.
Heath & Co, founded in 1845, in 1900 adopted the “Hezzanith” trade name, in 1926 the business was amalgamated with W. F. Stanley of London. The company has been making fine instruments for 160 plus years.
The sextant belonged to my father, who was a surveying engineer. In the sixties he worked for British company in Kuwait and used the nautical instrument for maritime surveys during the construction of the Kuwaiti harbor. The instrument has been with our family since then but was never used again.
The instrument has age-related signs of storage. There are general marks, oxidation and light wear. The lenses appear intact. There are no extra filters but two "lenses" which I believe could be for sun observations: The larger one can be screwed in front of the telescope, the small one can be mounted to the end. The mirrors are tarnished in the lower area. Please refer to the photos for the condition.
The wood case is intact, the top is securely attached to the bottom by the hinge and closes securely. There is some surface scratching and finish loss. The key to the lock ist not available. The case 15 cm high, 31 cm wide, 26.5 cm deep and the total weight (including the instrument) is 3.8 kg.
This is a private sale and what you see is what you get. I exclude any liability for warranty claims, liability for material defects, any guarantees or returns.
