Lot Submission & Evaluation
How does the submission process work?

After you create a Catawiki account, you can submit a new object to sell on Catawiki.

Submit a new object

You can start by entering the object you want to sell. Once you begin entering an object, some suggestions will automatically appear below the text field.

If you’re unable to find the object you wish to sell, select the most relevant available object and leave a message for the expert during submission.

If you’re already familiar with Catawiki you may want to sell in a specific auction. You can do this by navigating to the bottom of the page, selecting ‘Or start with an auction’ and choosing the auction you want to sell in.

After you enter your object or select an auction, you’ll add your object’s images, details, value, and shipping info.

Working on an object draft

If there were any submissions you started but didn’t finish, then we’ll save a draft. You can find all of your drafts in one place.

Your most recent drafts will also appear when you choose to submit a new object.

You can delete a draft by selecting ‘Delete’ from the ‘Actions’ menu shown beside each draft in your ‘Submissions’.

How to upload images

To upload images from a desktop computer, you can drag and drop them into the box in the ‘Images’ section of the submission tool.

You can also ‘Add via computer’ or ‘Add via mobile’.

If you're using a mobile phone or tablet, you can upload photos from your device or use your device's camera to capture your object. These photos will then be added to your submission.

Our experts require good images to evaluate your object so make sure you take high-quality photos. Good images often bring in higher selling prices too.

How to add object details

Take the time to add all of this info so bidders feel confident about buying your object. After you submit your object, it’s no longer possible for you to update the object’s details yourself.

Does your object have an interesting story to tell? Then use the description field to explain what makes it unique.

If you’re not sure of what any of the fields mean, there will be an ‘info symbol’ next to the field that helps explain it further.

You can change your object, or auction, at any time before submitting.

Valuing your object

Estimated selling price

Give an estimate of how much you think your object is worth. If you don’t know, take a guess. The value is only seen by our experts when reviewing your object, not by bidders.

If your object is worth more than €200, you can add an optional reserve price to it.

Reserve price

This is the minimum price that you’re willing to sell your object for. This is set in consultation with our experts.

If the reserve price is not reached by the time the auction ends, the object will not be sold and you’ll have the opportunity to re-offer the object for auction or offer the object to the highest bidder.

Buy now

You can add a buy now option for your objects. This allows potential buyers to purchase your object for a fixed price before the auction ends.

To use buy now, your object must have an estimated value of at least €200. Keep in mind, you can’t offer only the buy now option. Bidding on your object will be available alongside buy now.

Shipping your object

During submission you’ll select the size of your package, choose smart or manual shipping, and decide if your object can be picked up.

Preview your object before submitting

Once you’ve added your object’s images, details, value, and shipping info, you can preview your object. This is a great way to check that everything is in order before submitting.

After previewing, you can submit your object and it will go to one of our experts.

What happens after submission?

Our experts will review your object. If they have all the info they need, your object will be scheduled for auction.

If the experts need more info or have to make any changes, they’ll send you an email about the adjustments you need to make. Your object will also go back to your drafts along with feedback from the expert.

Once you've made a submission, you can follow your object's progress in your ‘Submissions’.

Make a copy of an object

If you’re selling a similar object, then there’s no need to create an object from scratch.

You can create a copy of your objects by selecting ‘Delete’ from the ‘Actions’ menu shown beside each draft in your ‘Submissions’.

This will create a copy of your chosen object, including all of its object details as well as images, shipping info, pricing, and description. You might be asked to enter the type of object you’re selling again before your object is copied.

Making changes to your object after submission

Editing an object once it's submitted

Once you submit your object, it will be sent to our team of experts for review. If they notice any inaccuracies or need additional details about your object, they'll put your submission back into a draft state and suggest changes. You’ll receive a notification if this happens.

Change the description of an object that is up for auction

If you notice that the description of your object is incorrect or needs to be updated, contact us.

Provide as much info as possible, including the object ID and a detailed explanation of the required changes.

It can take some time to process the revisions, but we’ll do our best to update it as quickly as possible. The sooner you contact us the more likely we can make the changes.

When will your object be scheduled for auction?

At Catawiki, we host auctions regularly. We’ll let you know when the expert finds the perfect auction for your object. Since finding the right fit can take some time, this can take up to a week.
