A fascinating and extremely rare example of Byzantine Jewelry Craft. Attractive green and sandy patina. Not often seen on the market, a popular collector's piece.
Byzantine jewelry, especially from the 10th to 12th centuries AD, was known for its intricate and highly detailed craftsmanship, with strong influences from both Christian religious symbols and Roman traditions. Jewelry molds from this period were often used to create pieces of great significance, including religious artifacts, personal adornments, and symbols of wealth or status.
Jewelry molds from this era were made of various materials, including metal, stone, and clay. Techniques included casting, engraving, and repoussé (a method of hammering metal from the reverse side to create a raised design). Molds would have been used to produce coins, rings, brooches, and pendants.
