A very fine old 4/4 violin, labeled Alexander Gaglianus me fecit Neapoli 1721. The instrument is in ready to play condition with tears, wears, old repaired small crack on the back, new rosewood set up and new strings. The violin has an excellent medium grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of softly flamed maple with matched sides, neck and scroll. Rich golden brown varnish with brighter ground shows an amazing wooden choice. The whole length of the violin is 592 mm and the back 359 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 165 mm; middle bouts: 112 mm; lower bouts: 206 mm. Full size. The sound is very deep, rich, powerful, suitable for soloist.
