Don Papa - Gayuma - 70cl
New Don Papa Gayuma Edition
Don Papa Gayuma aged rum pays homage to the rituals practiced by the shamans of Mount Kanlaon, a volcano located on the island of Negros aka Sugarlandia. “Gayuma” means love filter. During the Spanish colonial era, the island of Siquijor in the Philippines was considered a place where mysticism and magic reigned.
For centuries, tradition and shamanic cults were respected and above all applied on the island. There was a cure, a potion for almost every ailment, even problems of the heart. So individuals looking for love went to the island to ask the shaman to prepare Gayuma for them, a hot and aromatic potion with aphrodisiac properties.
Don Papa bears witness to the lushness of Sugarlandia. With this new Gayuma vintage, Don Papa reveals a new facet of this exuberant universe.
Don Papa Gayuma old rum is made from local molasses, fermented then distilled. Aged for 7 years in ex-Bourbon barrels, Don Papa Gayuma then benefits from two successive finishes. The first is 6 months in ex-Rioja wine barrels and the second has an additional 3 months of refining in ex-Islay peated whiskey barrels.
Its nose, creamy and powerful, reveals notes of peat, vanilla and orange peel. On the palate, the smoke envelopes the creamy flavors of exotic fruits and vanilla. Its smoky and spicy finish evolves into cocoa flavors.
Don Papa Gayuma aged rum is presented in a canister with a tropical gothic design. This setting illustrates the mystical and mysterious rituals and traditions of the islands of Sugarlandia and Siquijor.
Don Papa Gayuma is the brand new vintage from Don Papa and the very first with a delicately peaty aromatic profile.
