Tashkent - the City of Bread is a story by Russian writer Alexander Neverov, completed and published in 1923 and becoming his most famous work. The story tells of the journey of a twelve-year-old peasant boy, Mishka, from his native village in Buzuluk district to Tashkent during the mass famine in the Volga region. In the USSR, the story was reprinted many times and was included in the school literature curriculum; it was translated into many foreign languages. A black-and-white feature film of the same name was made based on the story.
