A stunning kô’dansu 小箪笥 (small cabinet of drawers) crafted in a single section, fully restored, cleaned, and waxed in Japan.
Constructed from precious solid keyaki wood (Zelkova - Japanese oak), the cabinet is finished with a warm brown lacquer - even on the backside - featuring a slight reddish undertone, which accentuates the striking natural grain of the wood.
The cabinet is designed with six drawers of varying sizes. Each is fitted with rectangular iron lock plates adorned with kiku-shaped (chrysanthemum) knobs, with above appliqués with finely chiselled scrolling, and featuring lower lobed corners with a heart-shaped incision. The drawers are paired with warabite-shaped bail handles. The sides are fitted with matching totte (grip handles) for easy transport. Each drawer runs smoothly, offering ample storage space.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).

Height 52.8 cm, Width 56 cm, Depth 34.7 cm.
The kô’dansu is in very good condition, some old traces of use on top. With one key included, working on the left drawers in the old fashioned Japanese manner, not very smooth. Please refer to the photos for a detailed condition reference.
