Berlage stool originally designed for the Gemeentemuseum The Hague.
The museum for modern art in the Netherlands in The Hague.
The museum building and interior furniture is designed by famous Dutch architect Berlage in the style of Rationalism.
The museum also holds the biggest collection of his work, including most of his furniture.
Ever since the opening of the Gemeentemuseum in 1935, the Berlage stool has been used in the museum. A heavy quality, handy stool made of lacquered oak. The seat has a slight slope and is made of black-stained plywood.
Designed by the municipal architect H.H. van Zeggeren and the head of the Central Workshops H.G. Schouten.
On the inside of the stools a stamp stating that this is a one time reissue commissioned by the Gemeentemuseum The Hague in 1999. (Last photo is one of the museum)
Height 46,5 cm / width 34 x Depth 34 cm
Provenance: private collection
No cracks, chipping, dents or missing elements.
