This is a lacquer box with maki-e lacquer from the Meiji period.
This is a two-tiered box.
It has a beautiful design with three fans decorated with pine, bamboo, and plum in maki-e.
The fineness of the maki-e and the three-dimensionality of the gold of the pine and bamboo make it clear that this is a high-quality item.
In Japan, fans, pine, bamboo, and plum are used as lucky things.
●The reasons why fans are considered lucky are as follows:
It was thought to bring good luck because its shape, which spreads out at the end, resembles Mt. Fuji. It is said that things with the same shape as Mt. Fuji, which has been revered as a sacred mountain since ancient times, also bring good luck from the gods.
●Pine: It means "longevity and prolonged life" because it does not wither even in winter and maintains a dignified appearance.
●Bamboo: It is hard to break and grows quickly, so it was considered a symbol of "vitality and growth".
●Plum: Even when it is old enough to grow moss, it is highly valued because it blooms beautiful flowers with a noble fragrance in early spring before other flowers, and it has been considered a symbol of "nobility and longevity".
Although it is over 100 years old, it has been well stored.
There are small marks on the corners and cracks in the lacquer on the inside and on the installation surface. I think it is still in good condition and can be used.
