The cool spring weather delayed the dormancy period and the vegetative cycle. Although the start of the summer season was very mild, the weather changed in mid-August, with heavy rains followed by high temperatures combined with high humidity. These conditions led to the rapid development of Botrytis cinerea, a fungus that mainly affected Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes, but not Chardonnay grapes. The conditions forecast throughout September were ideal and helped to fine-tune the ripeness levels of the grapes until the harvest, which began on 15 September. The grapes revealed a rare richness and balance.
