Dufftown is one of those dozens of distilleries opened at the end of the 1980s and still retains the basic layout with its characteristic pagodas. The distillery, of considerable size, producing over 6 million litres, mainly supplies malt for Diageo's blended products. The Dufftown style is herbaceous and the fermentation takes over 75 hours. The distillation occurs quite slowly and the stills are filled little so as to leave more contact with the copper and produce a lighter distillate.

Long John Macdonald acquired the license for the Ben Nevis distillery, just outside Fort William, in 1825. Production was carried out sporadically until the arrival of Joseph Hobbs in 1941, who about 30 years earlier had been sold, with his Long John brand, to the London Wine and Spirit Merchant W.H. distillery. Chaplin & Co. Later in 1936 Long John passed into the hands of Seager Evans, the gin distiller who had built the Strathclyde grain distillery in Glasgow only ten years earlier. In 1956 Seager Evans was acquired by the American group Schenley Industries, which passed it to the British Whitbread in 1975. In 2005 it finally passed to the French group Pernod Ricard.

Johnnie Walker Red Label is the Pioneer Blend of the Scottish distillery, the versatile one that introduced whiskey to the world. Made in the four corners of Scotland, it crackles with spice and is full of vibrant, smoky flavors followed by a bed of sweet vanilla, a crisp freshness and Johnnie Walker's signature of a long, lingering, smoky finish.
