This aged Okina mask embodies a serene, smiling face and an association with blessing and renewal, while reflecting the profound dignity and wisdom of its character in traditional Noh theatre.

The finely carved lines convey a timeless essence of life, while the aged pigments have gracefully mellowed with age, lending the mask a genuine and historic allure.

Such masks gained prominence during the Heian period, where it became formalized as a part of ceremonial performances. It is based on the sarugaku mask, used before the art of Noh existed.
