According to the previous owner, an elderly man who lived in Congo during the 1960s, this sculpture was brought to Belgium by him when the colonial era came to an end. The sculpture is said to have originally come from Ivory Coast, though this cannot be confirmed with complete certainty.
The exact age of the sculpture is unknown, but it dates back to at least the 1960s or earlier. The wood carvings are finely and meticulously crafted, and the piece features a dark patina.
