Only precious beryl variety and part of the prestigious trinity of colourful precious stones with ruby and sapphire corundum, emerald has an unique place in history and has been highly valued for its extraordinary shades of green since more than 4000 years.
It became in use as a commodity money in the Fertile Crescent and decorated the powerful Pharaoh's sarcophagus.
The name emerald itself derives from 'zamarat' in Persian, meaning heart of stone, literally the most essential and highest spiritual value 'organ' the mountains can offer.
Here is a remarkable and very interesting specimen of emerald of the highest quality, on matrix, from the most famous locality for this precious stone and main provider of fine jewellery-grade crystals: Muzo, in the Colombian Andes!
Plus, it comes in combination with yellow Parisite(-Ce), for which species Muzo is the type-locality!
The specimen displays a cluster of parallel emerald crystals, 1.0 cm in length, with very good gem emerald green colour, nested in a geodic calcite crevice.
The parisite occurs here as a 2.5 cm large polycrystalline assemblage, most probably pseudomorphic (after a carbonate?), and displays small gem crystals.
A rare and nice quality combination of two sought after species from Colombia!
