Frederic Sackrider Remington (1861-1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer who specialised in depictions of the American Old West.
The “Rattlesnake” was one of Remington’s favourite sculptures and one of the artist’s most popular works.
Remington completed a plaster model in January 1905, cast bronzed by the Roman Bronze Works using the lost wax process. Eleven bronzes had been casted from this first model, 52cm high.
A cast was displayed in the Oval Office by US President Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.
This sculpture was cast in the 1st half of the 20th century after the model of Remington.
