Accurately Delineating Every Known Species, with the English as well as Scientific Names, Accompanied by Full descriptions, Date of Appearance, Lists of the Localities They Haunt, Their Food in the Caterpillar Stage, and Other Features of Their habits and Modes of Existence, etc ., etc. 4 v etc. , complete. With 132 hand-colored plates with nearly 2000 specimens. Four large 8vo volumes in contemporary dark green half morocco bindings with gilt spine text and gilt spine decoration (with insects in sub-title fields), marbled endpapers. Index to genera and species in Volume IV.
Books in overal good to very good condition. Externally on front board stamp of the Clarence Club and also sticker on front pastedown. Expect wear along edges and corners, shelfwear, wear head and tail of spine-especially vol 1 with some losses, front board vol 1 reattached.Wear on cloth on vol 4 -see photos. Binding firm. Inside foxing first/last pages of volumes. Inside overall clean!!! Plates with tissue guards, plates overall very clean with sometimes light spots. Light bump on lower margin vol 4 with light wear on around 80 pages with light repair with blank tape on some pages-see photos. Rarity. SCARCE
