Today, you're bidding on an original sculpture from the Djenné region in Mali.
This statue is a Dogon ancestor bounded within a wheel, mystical symbol of the Dogon culture.
It has received particular attention to detail by a Malian craftsman.
I bought it during my long past journeys to Mali. It has always been stored inside a glass showcase.
***MATERIAL: African bronze. Lost-wax casting process, dark brown patina.
***PROVENANCE: Private collection, originally from the Djenné region, in Mali (collected in situ).
***SPECS: 28 cm height, 23 cm width. About 1400 g.
