Sérgio ‘Odeith’, born in 1976 in Damaia, Portugal, is a renowned artist recognized for his impressive journey in the world of graffiti and street art. His first encounter with a spray can in the mid-1980s led him to leave his artistic mark on the walls of his neighborhood through signatures and doodles. However, it was not until the mid-1990s that he truly immersed himself in graffiti, inspired by the vibrant movement in Carcavelos.
Fueled by his passion for drawing, Sérgio embarked on a path of unauthorized street art, painting on walls and railway lines along the Sintra line. His dedication and talent soon led him to create large-scale murals in various locations, including Damaia, Carcavelos, and impoverished neighborhoods in Amadora. Despite leaving school at the age of 15, Sérgio’s artistic journey remained entirely self-taught, demonstrating his determination and resilience.
In 2003, Sérgio adopted the name “Odeith” after years of painting street murals under the name “Eith.” During this time, he began gaining international recognition for his innovative use of the anamorphosis technique. His compositions, often painted on 90-degree corners or flat walls, create a captivating 3D optical illusion, mesmerizing viewers with their realism and technical skill. This unique style, which he later dubbed “Somber 3D,” features realistic depictions of colossal insects and objects, often set in abandoned spaces.
In 2008, Sérgio made a significant career shift, closing his tattoo shop, which had been in operation since 1999, and relocating to London. Currently based in Lisbon, Odeith focuses exclusively on studio work and creating captivating murals on walls. His artistic journey is a testament to the power of self-expression and the ability to overcome obstacles through sheer talent and dedication.
