Aquamarine from the Karakorum has become over the last decades a great classic among collectors of gems: there, steep veins of aplite and pegmatite were cracked during the Himalayan orogenesis, leading to the formation of exceptional pockets featuring sought after pegmatite species such as beryl, spodumene, apatite, garnet, feldspar, micas and other rarer minerals.
Here is a wonderful aquamarine crystal showing a decoration of blood red spessartine garnets scattered over three faces of the beryl!
The aquamarine shows the most desirable sky blue colour, very good lustre, perfect glossy termination and a remarkable feature: a very sharp contrast between a cloudy bottom (fluid inclusions) and a super clear tip!
This makes for an unique visual effect of blue smoke trapped within a crystalline hexagonal gem, highlighted by about twenty glossy red garnets.
Truly a superb specimen of this special and unique combination of aquamarine and garnet from the Himalayas!
This specimen comes with a custom hand-milled acrylic base for display.
