From the 1850s, Schatz was a leading manufacturer of classic ship’s instruments, before finally closing in 1985.
This fine set comprises matching Schatz 1881 Ocean-quartz Ship's Bell marine clock and a compensated aneuroid barometer. Made in West Germany in the years before 1992, both are fully functional and show superb workmanship.
The clock's battery-run quartz movement has mechanical chimes that strike a 4-hour-watch-sequence with cycles of one-to-eight bells struck at 30-minute intervals. NB-these clocks have a light action with clear, but fairly quiet chimes. Fully adjustable from the front. Chimes can be switched off from inside if wished (green switch, photos #21-22). The barometer is calibrated in millibars and inches with a capillary thermometer (Celsius/Fahrenheit). It is adjustable by opening the case from the front.
The lacquered brass-housings have a bronze mat finish. They are both in excellent, near-mint, condition with only light patina (see photos). There are no cracks or dents. The doors are secured by brass scuttle-clamps. The facet-cut glass ports are clean and intact.
A great opportunity to own of these fine instruments, for use at home, in the office or on-board ship. I pack with care (see reviews) and send securely with insurance.

Hi. I was surprised to receive your neutral feedback. I was not aware that you thought there was a problem, as you have not contacted and have not tried to see if we can resolve the issue. The barometer was not sold as being flawless, it was sold as "near-mint" which I believe is an accurate description. There were 25 close-up pictures of the barometer. In addition, I pointed out that there was minor patina, again an accurate description. I also wrote that the barometer was made in West Germany (as was), more than 30 years ago. If you wanted a flawless barometer, you should probably have considered buying a new one, if that were possible, although this would have cost 3-4 times the price of the barometer you bought!
