Fransje Gimbrere - 雕刻, Standing Textile(s) - Acoustic Pagoda - 140 cm - 玻璃纖維、再生紙 - 2018
編號 89194629
A wish for a new identity and more application possibilities for her Standing Textile(s) collection
lead Fransje Gimbrère to research new materials for a different skin.
The research resulted in an acoustics-improving special edition: Standing Textile(s) - Pagoda.
The lightweight 3D handwoven structure from glass fiber is treated with an eco-friendly material made of recycled paper fibers and biodegradable glue that absorbs sound and improves acoustics within interiors.
ABOUT STANDING TEXTILE(S)
‘Standing Textile(s)’ are built up, thread by thread, on a custom-made weaving loom. 3D-woven configurations are experimentally discovered on the spot, creating intriguing tactile volumes. The lack of support and hollowness might make them seem on the edge of breaking, but their open structures are strong and sturdy and define the interior without diminishing the sense of space.
‘Standing Textile(s)’ arose from an experimental textile research, driven by the desire to bring textiles into the interior differently than what we are used to. It embodies a growing 3D-woven collection of architectural and interior objects. The research consciously awards the value of artisanal textile production techniques, explores its unseen possibilities and questions the use of textiles today.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Fransje Gimbrère is a Design-artist, and researcher from Tilburg, the textile city of The Netherlands. She graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2017 with her Standing Textile(s) and has been building her career ever since.
Inspired by human behaviour and through scientific and experimental, hands-on research, Fransje hunts for new possibilities and applications of existing materials, ancient crafts, and industrial production techniques.
Through engineering material behavior and by manipulating how matter is perceived, she creates inspiring concepts and stimulating designs for clients and industries.
Fransje is exhibiting in museums around the world with her autonomous work, creates commissioned and site-specific pieces for public spaces, and shares her technical knowledge and vision for arts and culture as a consultant for clients in various fields, as a board member of several cultural institutions and head of the pre-bachelor course at Design Academy Eindhoven.
