Bronze Age Luristan Bronze Ibex Figurine
This Bronze Age figurine from Luristan, also known as Lorestān, is an exquisite representation of an ibex. Luristan bronzes, which include horse trappings, utensils, weapons, jewelry, belt buckles, and ritual objects, date from approximately 1500–500 BC. These artifacts have been excavated since the late 1920s in the Harsin, Khorramābād, and Alishtar valleys of the Zagros Mountains in western Iran.
The precise origin of Luristan bronzes remains a mystery. Scholars suggest that they may have been crafted by the Cimmerians, a nomadic people from southern Russia who possibly invaded Iran in the 8th century BC, or by related Indo-European groups such as the early Medes and Persians.
Provenance: Ex Danish private collection , collected before 1990.
