To the Romans, a laurel wreath was a symbol of victory in war. Laurel wreaths were worn by triumphatores: victorious generals celebrating a Roman triumph. On Roman coins or statues, the Emperor is often depicted wearing a laurel wreath as a symbol of power.
Galerius Valerius Maximinus Daia (or Daza): Roman Emperor from 310-313 AD.
In 305 AD his maternal uncle Emperor Galerius adopted Maximinus as a son and heir, raising him to the rank of Caesar and granting him the government of Syria and Egypt.
Maximinus was a fervent believer in the old Roman gods and repressed the Christian faith. Maximinus was the last Roman Emperor, and thus the last person to hold the title of Pharaoh. After 3400 years, the title of Pharaoh disappeared from official ruling titles.
GENIO IMPERATORIS: Latin for: to the Genius (guardian spirit) of the Emperor as Commander in Chief.
