【Product details】
This exquisite four-tiered jubako bento box from the Meiji period features makie designs of peony, bush clover, narcissus, dandelion, and horsetail on a black lacquer background. Each floral motif carries symbolic meaning: the peony signifies wealth and elegance; the bush clover represents resilience; the narcissus symbolizes purity and renewal; the dandelion stands for endurance; and the horsetail suggests vitality. The interior is finished in vibrant vermilion lacquer.
Makie is a traditional Japanese lacquer technique involving sprinkling gold or silver powder onto wet lacquer to create intricate, shimmering designs.
The jubako has minor wear, small scratches, chips, and stains due to age. The original wooden storage box shows significant wear, including wormholes, a broken bottom, and missing panels. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of the condition.
Dimensions: approx. H 24.5 cm W 18.3 cm D 16.2 cm
