Romain Steppe was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1859 and died there in 1927. He was a painter. Pupil of Van Hoorde, then of Boland and finally of Is. Meyers. Went painting with the latter in Hamme, Zandvliet, Sint-Amands (1880-1890). Realized landscapes, but especially marines, seascapes. Realistic design, impressionistic touch. Worked, among others, along the banks of the Scheldt, on the Belgian coast, in the port of Antwerp, in the Limburg Kempen, later also in England, the Netherlands, Italy and France. Settled afterwards in Antwerp and exhibited there regularly from 1887. Also worked on ivory as a carrier. Was a friend of E. Verhaeren and often stayed in Sint-Amands. Was a member of the Kring Als Ik Kan in Antwerp. Work among others in the collection of the municipality of Sint-Amands.
