This exquisite Showa period tea caddy is a masterpiece by the renowned Wajima-nuri lacquer artist Taniuchi Kazunori, also known by his art name, Shiko. Taniuchi Kazunori is celebrated for his exceptional craftsmanship, having been awarded numerous prestigious accolades including the highest prize at the Traditional Craft Wajima Lacquerware Exhibition in 1980, the Wajima City Council Chairman's Award in 1983, and an Excellence Award in 1989. His work was also selected for the "Chado Art Exhibition for Tomorrow" by the Tankosha Publishing Co. and Tankokai in 1990.

Crafted from natural wood and layered with multiple coats of lacquer, this tea caddy is a prime example of the finest Wajima-nuri lacquerware. The lid of the caddy is adorned with intricate maki-e decorations depicting traditional Japanese landscape scenes, while the rest of the caddy is finished in luxurious gold nashiji, adding a beautiful shimmer. The interior is also fully lined in gold nashiji, showcasing the exceptional quality and attention to detail.

Maki-e, a traditional Japanese technique, involves sprinkling gold or silver powder onto wet lacquer to create intricate and elegant designs. Nashiji, employing a similar method, uses gold or silver flecks to achieve a unique pear skin-like texture, offering a subtle yet captivating depth to the surface.

The tea caddy comes with its original signed and sealed wooden box, along with a signed and sealed silk cloth. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of its condition.
